ATM Solutions has recruited five learners for the 2010/2011 fiscal year. The learners, who have completed their theoretical training since their intake in August this year, will now gain on-the-job training and experience in their selected fields.
The three learners qualifying towards their ISET SETA’s IT: Technical Support learnerships at NQF level 4 will learn how to assemble ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) at the company’s workshop while the one learner who is studying towards his Services SETA’s General Business Administration (NQF level 4) learnership will be stationed at ATM Solutions’ finance and procurement department. The remaining learner qualifying towards her NQF level 2 Contact Centre Support learnership will gain experience in handling inbound and outbound calls, among others, while being mentored by ATM Solutions’ highly skilled call centre employees.
“Although we don’t guarantee our learners permanent employment, they do form part of our talent management and succession planning strategy,” comments Jill Colling, HR Executive at ATM Solutions, which was awarded Bank SETA training provider status recently.
She adds that learnership programmes provide companies with an excellent platform to introduce learners to the company’s work ethos and culture while providing them with the necessary training that ultimately leads to a qualification. “Hence, we appointed three out of the four learners on contract who completed their IT: Technical Support learnerships in the 2009/2010 fiscal year,” notes Colling.
Aside from the fact that learnerships enable companies to create opportunities for individuals who have encountered barriers in the workplace as a result of their gender or disabilities in the past, it also affords companies the opportunity to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
“Learners who have successfully obtained their learnerships are more likely to find employment as skilled employees provide any company with a competitive edge. Therefore, the training and development of young South Africans will remain a top priority as we continue to embark on learnership programmes going forward,” she concludes.
